According to a recent report from Sky Sports News, Matty Longstaff looks set to sign a new long-term contract with Newcastle United after being persuaded to say by manager Steve Bruce.
The belief is that after months of speculation, Longstaff has decided to stick it out with the Magpies and really try to make an impact in the first team. At the age of just 20 he still has many years left ahead at him at the top level, but for a while, it appeared as if Italy would be his next destination.
He had been offered a £30,000-per-week by Udinese, and he even made the trip over there for talks back in March. Brighton and Leeds United were also intrigued by the possibility of taking him on, but nothing came to fruition.
Newcastle need a few standout names next season, and Longstaff definitely seems like someone who can be a difference maker.
