According to Real Madrid club director Emilio Butragueno, Julen Lopetegui will indeed be in charge for El Clasico against Barcelona this weekend. There has been a great deal of speculation as to whether or not he would last beyond the Viktoria Plzen game, although given that they were able to win that game, it seems likely that he will indeed be in the dugout against Barca.
Real fans likely won’t be particularly confident of securing the win given their recent run of form, but you never know what will happen during a derby game. The rivals have been moving in two very different directions over the course of the last few months, and it seems entirely possible to suggest that Barcelona could be the team that puts the final nail in the coffin of Lopetegui’s reign. If that’s the case, it could be the catalyst behind a resurgence of sorts for the club.
