Villarreal defender Angel Lopez will miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury in their 4-2 loss to Real Madrid on Sunday.
The right-back was stretchered off on the hour mark and scans revealed the 29-year-old had ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
Lopez, who has been an ever-present for Villarreal this season, successfully underwent surgery in Barcelona on Tuesday and is expected to be out until July.
Villarreal are in third place in the La Liga standings – 13 points adrift of league leaders Barcelona – ahead of their home clash with Osasuna on Saturday.
