The agent of Benfica defender Lorenzo Melgarejo has revealed that Arsenal and Fenerbahce are showing interest in his client.
The Paraguayan footballer, who arrived at Estadio da Luz as a midfielder, has made the left-back position his own last season, but the Eagles are, nonetheless, prepared to cash in on him in the summer.
Turkish giants Fenerbahce were believed to be preparing a summer bid for the 22-year-old, but the player’s representative has suggested that Arsenal are also keen.
“Arsenal and Fenerbahce have enquired about Melgarejo, but so far there has been nothing concrete,” agent Huan Gabriel Appleyard explained to Radio Monumental.
Lorenzo Melgarejo joined Benfica in the summer of 2011 from Independiente of Paraguay, and was immediately loaned to Pacos de Ferreira.
The talented footballer largely impressed during his loan spell, clocking up 29 league appearances and scoring no less than 10 goals in the process.
He was converted to a left-back upon his return at Estadio da Luz, starting 21 league matches and scoring 2 goals.
