Chelsea forward Lucas Piazon has admitted he could complete a permanent move to Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of the season.
The former Brazil Under-17 international, now 20, joined Chelsea from Sao Paulo for a fee believed to be in the region of €7.5 million in 2011, but has made just one English Premier League appearance over the past three seasons.
Piazon, having previously spent time on loan at Malaga and Vitesse Arnhem, is hoping a season-long loan at Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt will allow him to play regularly.
“I wish to play at Chelsea,” Piazon told BILD. “But football is a surprise and everything can change quickly.
“I’m only 20 and anything can happen. If everything fits, I could stay in Frankfurt.
“Chelsea has so many very good players and currently it is difficult for me to find a place.
“Next week I pull out of the hotel and move into my apartment and tomorrow my language course begins. Then I learn German.
“I think it’s normal [to go on loan]. Chelsea has so many very good players and it would currently be difficult for me to find a place. Here I can play and gain experience.”
Since arriving in Frankfurt last month, Piazon, who bagged 11 goals in 27 Dutch Eredivisie appearances for Vitesse last season, has already started three matches.
Lambert impressed by Cleverley
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has rubbished reports suggesting Tom Cleverley did not want to complete a loan move to Villa Park this summer.
Cleverley seemed destined to stay at United after reported moves to Everton, Hull, and Villa fell through, but the Premier League approved a loan switch about 17 hours after the close of the transfer window.
Reports had suggested Cleverley was keeping his options open in order to secure a move to Goodison Park; however, Lambert has quashed this suggestion.
“My main concern was that he wanted to come here, he wanted to play,” said Lambert.
“I know all this speculation about him not wanting to come, that’s not the impression when I spoke to him.
“The deadline day is mayhem, things can go wrong, be on and off, carnage breaking out everywhere.
“I knew the situation. The lad never indicated he didn’t want to come. I spoke to him, he was professional about it.”
Lambert added: “He’s a top player. I’ve only worked with the lad for a week but already I know exactly what type of lad he is.
“If he can do what he did for the first few years of his career when he burst onto the scene then he will be some player for us.”
The England supporters who started a petition to keep Cleverley off England’s World Cup squad this summer would surely beg to differ.
The petition, which garnered over 4,000 signatures in less than 24 hours, read: “Tom Cleverley, owner of 13 England caps, has been regularly selected by Roy Hodgson in his squads without possessing any genuine qualities whatsoever.
“We believe in the reputation of this proud footballing nation and that he should be prevented from attending this summer’s international showcase.
“Whilst England are considered to disappoint at major tournaments, further embarrassment could be avoided by not having his inept performances undermine the rest team’s efforts.”
Surely this has (or will) serve as motivation for Cleverley to prove his doubters wrong.
Given the nature of Villa’s pacy, counter-attacking style of play, especially away from home, Cleverley has been put in a great position to succeed.
