Lucas Silva and Los Blancos have terminated their contract by mutual consent. Although the Brazilian midfielder is now a free agent and the transfer window has shut, Marca reports that Silva is expecting to sign for a European club in the days to come.
In January 2015 the 26-year-old came to Real Madrid from the Brazilian Cruzeiro and signed a five-and-a-half-year contract for a rumoured amount of €14 million. He made his debut for the club in February 2015 in the team’s match against Deportivo de La Coruna, coming on as a second-half substitute for Asier Illarramendi, but only played eight games during that season before being sent to Marseille on loan for the 2015/2016 season.
In January 2016 Silva was asked by Marseille’s chairman Vincent Labrune to terminate the loan and join Anderlecht, which he refused. In January 2017 the Brazilian returned to Cruzeiro on loan, which was extended to the 2018/2019 season.
Silva’s contract with Real Madrid would have expired in 2020, but both sides believed that the midfielder had a better chance of finding a new club as a free agent.
