Cruzeiro midfielder Lucas Silva is absolutely delighted with recent speculation linking him with a summer move to Real Madrid.
The Brazil youth international, 21, has reportedly emerged as a summer target for the European champions amid ongoing uncertainty regarding the long-term future of Sami Khedira, who continues to be linked with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United.
“I’m happy with the news and also very surprised; it shows that people are recognising my work not only here in Brazil but also abroad,” Silva said.
“If it really does happen, because at the moment it’s only speculation, it would be very important for my family.
“It would be the realisation of dreams, comforts for everyone and maybe the time has arrived to return the favour to them.”
On the possibility of linking up with Cristiano Ronaldo at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Silva added: “Since I was small I’ve been following his games, from Manchester United and now much more at Real Madrid. He’s making history.
“I never imagined, never expected, that one day maybe something like this could happen, it would be a dream.
“Since I was small I have imagined many things. I never expected this could happen so quickly but all the dreams and goals that I’m achieving are thanks to God, and to play in Spain is another dream.”
Poyet still wants Borini
Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has revealed he would be more than happy to lure out-of-favour Liverpool striker Fabio Borini to the Stadium of Light.
Borini, who impressed while on loan at Sunderland last term, was left out of Liverpool’s match-day squad against the Black Cats on Saturday.
After the game, which ended 0-0, Poyet was asked whether he would be interested in signing the 23-year-old Italian in January, Poyet said: “I would love to.
“It is difficult to explain. It was a long summer and the things everyone knows, we agreed a price and we flew to America and he didn’t come.
“The bottom line is he is not with us. I am trying to concentrate on what we have got.”
Despite Liverpool’s struggles in front of goal, Borini has made just three starts for the Reds all season, including just one in the English Premier League.
The arrival of compatriot Mario Balotelli from AC Milan has certainly limited Borini’s first-team opportunities, despite the former’s well-documented poor form.
However, Borini could play a bigger role for the Reds during the upcoming festive period. That said, if he does not, expect Brendan Rodgers to allow the player to leave in either January or the summer.
