Lucas Torreira is very close to leaving Arsenal to join Fiorentina on a season-long loan, according to multiple sources, and the Serie A side would have the option of turning the deal permanent at the end of the campaign.
Torreira joined the Gunners in the summer of 2018 as one of the first signings of a new era, following the departure of Arsene Wenger and the appointment of Unai Emery. However, Emery’s attempts at revitalizing the team didn’t come off as well as he or the club may have hoped, and he was dismissed near the end of 2019 to be replaced soon by Mikel Arteta.
While Torreira may have featured in Emery’s plans, Arteta hasn’t had a place in his team for him and he was shipped out on loan to Atletico Madrid for 2020-21. He is now back at the club with a contract that has two years left to run, but his status there hasn’t changed.
Fiorentina will pay a €1.5m loan fee for his services, and should they decide to make the deal permanent next summer, they will have to part with another €15m.
