Portuguese newspaper A Bola has learned that Argentine giants River Plate are showing interest in FC Porto star Lucho Gonzalez.

Presidential elections are set to be held at River Plate, with two of the four candidates promising the fans the signing of Lucho Gonzalez.

They are obviously hoping to bring the experienced midfielder on a cut-price deal in January seeing as how his contract at FC Porto is due to expire at the end of the season.

Nevertheless, prizing the player away from Estadio do Dragao could prove to be a difficult task as he reportedly wants to sign a new deal with the Dragons.

It was from River Plate that Lucho Gonzalez joined FC Porto in the summer of 2005, while he later return to Portugal following a somewhat unsuccessful spell with Marseille.

The 32-year-old has amassed a total of 161 league appearances for the Dragons and scored 39 goals.
