Brazil have yet to record the first win at 2011 Copa America, having drawn their first two games and Selecao now need to beat Ecuador in order to make it to quarter-finals.
Mano Menezes’s side were on the verge of defeat in their second group game against Paraguay, only to be saved by a late strike from former Lyon forward Fred.
The boss is now pondering certain changes before the final group game, and more on this matter can be found in Brazil vs Ecuador preview.
Selecao have shown some improvement from their opening game against Venezuela, but Inter centre-back Lucio believes the team are still far from the desired form.
“No one is happy with these results,” Lucio told Reuters.
“We know the quality of players we have in this squad, we must show much more, more seriousness and more commitment to the Brazilian national team shirt.”
“Each one of us has to be looking for an improvement and understand that you have to give a bit more of yourself because we’re not getting the results.”
Seeing they have won four out of last five Copa America trophies, Brazil were considered one of the hot favourites for the title, but so far not everything has gone according to plan for Mano Menezes’ side.
One of the reasons for somewhat under-par performances is certainly the fact that the new coach introduced numerous changes to the team that participated at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Nevertheless, this Selecao side obviously have loads of potential, although they need to come of age and show they are ready to fight for the title at major tournaments.
