Barcelona have reportedly expressed an interest in signing Luis Diaz from Liverpool this summer, but according to John Cross of the Mirror, they’ve been told that the winger is a part of the long-term plans at his current club, and therefore not for sale.
In the past, which now seems a million years ago, Barcelona managed to prize away Liverpool’s main star on two occasions, despite the Merseysiders’ reluctance to sell. In 2014, they signed Luis Suarez, and three and a half years later, Philippe Coutinho.
The respective positions of the two clubs have changed dramatically since, with Liverpool appearing in three Champions League finals and winning one, and Barcelona not looking nearly as good as they did back then with Lionel Messi in their ranks.
Be that as it may, even if Liverpool were open to Diaz leaving Anfield, with three years left on his contract, Liverpool surely wouldn’t consider offers below £100 million for his services, and Barcelona, in their current financial state, would not be able to pay such a price.
Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with Diaz, and while they certainly can afford to splash out, they’re likely to get the same answer from the Merseyside as Barcelona: Luis Diaz is not for sale.
