Luis Enrique prepped for stern Lyon challenge

Luis Enrique will not allow any complacency to set in when Paris Saint-Germain take on Lyon on Sunday.

PSG are in scintillating form, having beaten Brest 10-0 on aggregate over two legs in the Champions League, while they are 10 points clear at the top of Ligue 1.

Indeed, PSG are unbeaten in their 22 Ligue 1 matches this season (W17 D5), establishing the second-longest unbeaten streak at the start of a season in the top-flight in the 21st century, behind PSG themselves in 2015-16 (27).

Lyon, on the other hand, are 20 points back in sixth place, though they are unbeaten in their last seven home matches in Ligue 1 (W5 D2), with Paulo Fonseca having made a strong start since taking over in January.

“Of course, it will be difficult,” Luis Enrique said.

“They recently changed their coach, so they are still working on their connections, but an away game is always complicated; we know the strengths of this team which knows how to vary its play well.

“Lyon are one of the best teams in the league, and they are also in Europe. We expect a tough match. We need to be at a very high level to play well and win.”

Luis Enrique also spoke about forward Bradley Barcola’s development, with the 22-year-old having scored 16 times in all competitions for the club this season.

“Bradley was very good for us in the second half of last season and he has a very promising future,” he added of the winger, who PSG signed from Lyon in 2023.

“But we must not forget that he is very young. My goal is for him to continue progressing, just like all the other players in our squad.”
