Luis Enrique urges PSG not to be complacent against Dunkerque

Luis Enrique says Paris Saint-Germain are in no mood for complacency as they continue their bid for a record-extending 16th Coupe de France title.

They face second-tier Dunkerque in the semi-final on Tuesday and are the overwhelming favourites, with the Opta supercomputer giving them an 83.7% chance of progressing in 90 minutes.

PSG have all but wrapped up their Ligue 1 crown, going unbeaten so far and came close to winning it last weekend. Marseille lost to Reims and PSG thrashed Saint-Etienne 6-1, meaning they needed a draw from Saturday’s other fixture, but they were denied, as Monaco beat Nice.

They are also still fighting in the Champions League, with a quarter-final against Aston Villa looming next month.

In the Coupe de France, they are bidding to win a fourth consecutive title, and Luis Enrique is relishing the thick-and-fast nature of the upcoming fixture list.

“I’m going to approach it as usual,” he told reporters. “Since last season, we’ve been thinking in general terms and not about a single match.

“We love being in a busy schedule because it means we’re involved in all the competitions.

“We’ve never changed our mindset, we play the same way, we try to improve our performance and the best way to do that is to respect our opponents.

“We want to make history in France, and we have to take every match as a challenge. That’s our objective against Dunkerque.”

PSG have scored 119 goals in 44 matches in all competitions this season. Ousmane Dembele is their top scorer, netting 30 goals in 38 games, with Bradley Barcola second on the list with 18.

Luis Enrique’s side have had 18 different goalscorers this term, but the Spaniard was full of praise for Barcola, who also has 14 assists, the most of anyone on the team.

“Barcola perfectly defines… He started the season with a spectacular run, and from then on, he was one of the players who best understood that when there’s a player better placed than you, he makes a decisive pass,” Luis Enrique said.

“A decisive pass that leaves the team-mate in front of goal facing the keeper is even better. We’re always looking for the player best placed in front of goal.”
