Brazilian defender Luisao has extended his contract with Benfica, the Portuguese club announced on their official website.

The 30-year-old defender was heavily linked with a summer move to Paris Saint-Germain, but he eventually decided to remain at La Luz.

The player has now signed a new deal with Benfica that will keep him at the club until June 2016.

“Today is a very special moment in my career,” Luisao told club’s official website.

“I hereby notify the family of Benfica that I will finish my career at Benfica, but not now. In five or six years.”

A €20 million release clause was also inserted in the deal, so as to fend off any future interest in the player.
