Chelsea defender David Luiz has hit out at team-mate Frank Lampard, saying he must follow the instructions of coach Andre Villas-Boas.
Brazil defender Luiz offered his support for Villas-Boas and argued there should be no ‘privileged people’ at a football club.
Lampard has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge after publicly stating last week his relationship with the former Porto coach was ‘not ideal’.
“No one has to be someone’s father or son in a football club,” Luiz told Portuguese newspaper O Jogo following Brazil’s 2-1 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday.
“There are no privileged people there. He (Lampard) simply has to listen to the coach when he gives orders and take them.”
“No player can forget that they are just an employee of the club.”
Chelsea sit fifth in the English Premier League, outside of the Champions League qualification places, and trail Napoli 3-1 following the first leg of their round-of-16 tie in that competition.
Despite their obvious struggles, Luiz claimed the extent of Chelsea’s problems have been overplayed by the British media.
He also defended the ‘immense capacity’ of Villas-Boas, who he feels will lead Chelsea to success in the long-term.
“A lot of the controversies are created by the British media,” Luiz said.
“Last season, there were teams who were in a poor position in the table, and no one talked about it.”
“It is a lot easier to talk about Andre, because Chelsea are a big team who always fight for the first place. And when they are third or fourth, it gets easy to slam the coach.”
“But Andre has an immense capacity, he is an excellent person and I am sure he will have a great future at Chelsea.”
