Borussia Dortmund striker Lucas Barrios has explained that he is not happy with his status at the club.
After enjoying a remarkable last season, the Paraguayan missed the start of the new campaign through injury and never quite managed to return to starting line-up.
The 27-year-old admits he is unhappy at being mostly restricted to substitute appearances this season.
“Of course, I do not want to sit on the bench for a second season,” Barrios told Sport Bild.
“That is not what being a professional footballer is about. I’m unhappy, but I’m waiting for my chance as a professional.
“It is difficult on the other hand for me to accept this after such a successful season.”
The highly rated forward had an opportunity to leave Borussia in the winter, but he eventually opted to remain at Signal Iduna Park.
“The support of the fans and their recognition made me stay this winter. It had nothing to do with money.
”There were again many offers. Even (to leave) on loan. And again I rejected.”
Barrios extended his contract for another year last summer, meaning he is now tied to the club until June 2015.
The forward revealed he had rejected numerous offers to stay at Dortmund last summer, including the one worth €20 million.
However, Barrios could decide to leave BVB in the summer after starting just 2 Bundesliga games this season.
The Paraguayan international will have no shortage of offers should he decide to leave at the end of the season.
