Lyon have dismissed speculation that Gervinho is on the verge of signing for the club, the Express understands.
The Ligue 1 side were said to have been planning a swap deal with Arsenal, which would have seen Yoann Gourcouff move in the opposite direction on loan, with a view to a permanent deal.
However, manager Remi Garde, who incidentally won the double with the Gunners in 1998, has distanced himself from reports linking his side with the Ivory Coast international.
He told French paper Le Progres: “I’ve heard that Lyon is interested in Gervinho, but Gervinho is a striker, and we have young and very good strikers already at the club”.
The 26 year old has failed to make a real impression at Arsenal since arriving at the club in 2011, scoring just nine goals in forty-six league appearances.
His form in France was far superior, with fifteen goals coming in Lille’s title winning 2010/11 campaign enough to convince Arsene Wenger to secure his services.
Roma are the odds on favourites to sign the forward, with Marseille, Monaco and Paris Saint Germain also in the running for his signature.
