Manchester United have reportedly been given a huge boost in their pursuit of Leicester City’s James Maddison. The Foxes’ attacking midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford for several months, and it seems he’s been keen on it even longer than that.
Manchester Evening News claim they’ve been informed by sources close to the player that if it were up to him, Maddison would have been a United player ‘for years’ now.
Maddison’s current contract doesn’t expire before the summer of 2023, which means Leicester are likely to demand a huge fee to part ways with a key player three years before they have to. Further more, they’ve been trying to get the 23-year-old to put his name on a new deal, though the talks reportedly aren’t going as smoothly as they would have liked.
United have been targeting top young British talent lately, a strategy which resulted in the signings of winger Daniel James, centre-back Harry Maguire and right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka last summer, and Maddison is another player that fits that bill.
