Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath says he is considering handing Atletico Madrid loanee Diego a place in his squad next season.
Brazilian playmaker Diego joined Spanish club Atletico on a season-long loan at the beginning of the season after falling out with Magath, and has rediscovered his best form at Estadio Vicente Calderon.
Diego played a leading role in Atletico’s 4-2 aggregate victory against Hannover in the Europa League quarter-finals, and the 27-year-old may have earned another chance to succeed at the Volkswagen Arena.
“Diego makes any team stronger with his playing style,” Magath told Bild.
“Considering the way he played against Hannover, his situation will be re-evaluated.”
Magath, who returned to Wolfsburg in 2011 after a two-year spell at Schalke, said he intends to extend his contract with the Bundesliga club, which expires in 2013.
“I will continue to be Wolfsburg’s coach in 2014 and beyond,” he said.
Wolfsburg sit ninth in the Bundesliga table following a 3-1 loss to leaders Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
