Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath has said he expects to see Brazilian playmaker Diego back at the Volkswagen Arena next season.
The German said on Friday that the club’s supporters can look forward to the Brazilian’s return from Atletico Madrid at the end of his loan deal.
The 27-year-old, who joined the German club in a 15.5 million-euro deal from Juventus, played a key part in Atletico’s Europa League final victory over Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday, scoring in the 3-0 win in Bucharest.
Despite a public bust-up between the pair, when Diego refused to sit on the bench against Hoffenheim last season leaving Wolfsburg with only six substitutes, Magath is ready to see the midfielder return to Wolfsburg.
“(Diego) is contracted to us from July 1. At the moment, we await his return to training. We are waiting,” the 58-year-old told Globo Esporte.
“We have seen how valuable he can be as a player when he brings all of his skills to the team. So, our fans can look forward to that (next season).”
Wolfsburg finished the 2011/12 Bundesliga season in eighth place. Diego, meanwhile, plays his final game for Diego Simeone’s side against Villarreal on Sunday evening.
