Reports in France suggest striker Fabrice Pancrate could join Newcastle in the coming days.
The French striker is available on a free transfer after leaving Paris St Germain in the summer.
The French media are reporting he is on trial with the Magpies and he could be offered a deal if he impresses.
Chris Hughton’s side are the latest Championship outfit to be linked with the 29-year-old, following reported interest from Cardiff and Sheffield United, where he spent a week on trial.
Always wanted
During his trial at the Blades, Pancrate said he would he happy to play in the Championship, telling skysports.com: “I have always wanted to play in this country, and the Championship is a very good league, so let’s wait and see.”
Pancrate also trained with Portsmouth during pre-season and attracted interest from Burnley, while French sides Sochaux, Nantes and Strasbourg have also been linked with the striker.
