Newcastle have secured the services of impressive youngster Shane Ferguson until 2016, after the 19-year-old winger inked a new deal with the club.
The Northern Irishman joined Newcastle from Derry City in 2007, making his first-team debut in a 3-2 Carling Cup win over Accrington Stanley in August before going on to make nine appearances for the season.
Ferguson said he had been warmly received by the fans on Tyneside and was delighted to have committed his future to Newcastle.
“I’ve enjoyed this season and the new contract has just been the icing on the cake,” Ferguson told the club website.
“I’m really happy.”
“It’s a great thrill to play for the club and the support I have had from the fans since making my debut really means a lot so I’m just delighted to be with Newcastle for the next five years now.”
