The agent of Adam Maher has refuted suggestions that the AZ Alkmaar attacking midfielder has agreed to join Ajax
Maher impressed many with his dynamic performances last season and has been linked with a move away from the AFAS Stadion, with Ajax and PSV Eindhoven both credited with an interest.
It had been rumoured that the 19-year-old has reached a verbal agreement with Eredivisie champions Ajax, but the Netherlands international’s representative Sigi Lens has been quick to deny that any deal is in place.
”We know how Frank de Boer is thinking, but there was not a discussion further with Ajax,” Lens told Algemeen Dagblad.
Maher has attracted the attention of a number of foreign clubs but has already stated that he would only join Ajax or PSV in the off-season as he aims to continue his development in the Eredivisie.
His stock will have been furthered by his performance at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship, in which he played a pivotal role as the Netherlands reached the semi-finals.
Maher made 39 appearances for AZ last term, scoring 10 goals including one in the KNVB Cup final win over PSV in May.
