The January transfer window saw a number of high-profile Premier League deals materialise, including many that had been brewing since the summer. One that did not occur however was Riyad Mahrez to Manchester City, despite the league leaders’ late efforts on deadline day.
The failed move, which is not the first for the Algerian international, has clearly had a big impact on the player’s morale. Mahrez has missed his fourth Leicester training session since the window closed, according to Sky Sports, and reports suggest that there is a rift between club and player.
Mahrez has registered eight goals and seven assists in 24 appearances for the Foxes this season, continuing his remarkable form in the Premier League since his move to the Midlands club in 2013. The winger was a crucial part of Leicester’s title-winning 2015/16 season, and was named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year in that same season.
