Maicon, Mexes linked with Serie A returns

Former Serie A stars Douglas Maicon and Philippe Mexes are being linked with a return to Italy, Sport Mediaset has suggested.

Both footballers are free agents after their contracts with AS Roma and AC Milan came to an end, and they are believed to be on the radar of Sampdoria.

The Bluecerchiati have suffered back to back defeats to none other than the Giallorossi and Rossoneri in their last two outings, and they are clearly looking for defensive reinforcements.

Philippe Mexes is also in talks with Ligue 1 strugglers Marseille, meaning that Sampdoria officials need to act fast if they want to secure his signature.

Even if they are in the final stages of their respective careers, it is quite surprising to see Maicon and Mexes out of contract for so long, considering that the duo left their mark on Italian and European football, representing some of the world’s biggest clubs.
