Maicon nears Serie A return

Manchester City full-back Douglas Maicon is set to return to Italian Serie A, reports Il Corriere dello Sport.

The same source has suggested that AS Roma are keen to lure him to Stadio Olimpico, with new boss Rudi Garcia giving the club officials the green light.

The Giallorossi have made the Brazilian their number one target as they continue the search for a new right-sided defender, but the player’s €5 million yearly wage could prove to be a problem.

Nevertheless, it is believed Maicon would jump at the opportunity to return to Serie A as regular first team football would certainly improve his chances of making Brazil World Cup squad.

Signing the veteran defender from Manchester City is unlikely to be an easy task, which is why Roma are also looking at Wallace, Sebastien Corchia, Marcos Rocha and Carlinhos.

Despite being very active in the transfer market, the Giallorossi have yet to make a high-profile signing this summer.
