The agent of Brondby striker Simon Makienok, Michael Stensgaard, has confirmed the £3.3 million-rated player is attracting interest from a host of European clubs, Sky Sports understands.
Recent reports have suggested English Premier League strugglers Fulham — 4/11 to stave off relegation — are among the potential suitors for the 23-year-old Denmark international.
However, Stensgaard has revealed that Makienok, who joined Brondby from HB Koge in a deal worth €550,000 in January 2012, will leave Copenhagen only if the switch helps him reach ‘full potential.’
Fellow Denmark international Nicklas Helenius left Superligaen side AaB for Villa Park in the summer, but has yet to start a competitive match for the Villans.
Helenius’ career has undoubtedly halted and Stensgaard wants to ensure that his client does not suffer a similar fate.
“Obviously there is interest from a number of sources and not just from England,” said Makienok. “We will wait to see what happens in the coming window, and then perhaps again in the summer.
“We have a very good dialogue with Brondby and we are in no rush. We will make a decision to suit all parties.
“It’s very important for Simon to make the right move but there is no panic and no rush.
“If the right offer comes along then we will take a look at it.
“We would need to look carefully to ensure any club can help him reach his potential.
“We have set our specific criteria, and I’m sure Brondby have done the same for themselves, in terms of the fee they would expect.”
Makienok has bagged six goals in 10 Superligaen appearances for Drengene Fra Vestegnen this season.
Shane Long expects to stay at West Brom
West Bromwich Albion striker Shane Long does not expect to leave the Hawthorns during the January transfer window.
The Republic of Ireland international, 26, was close to leaving Albion for Hull City in the summer but the deal ultimately fell through.
Hull and a number of other Premier League clubs are keen on signing Long this month, but the 26-year-old striker is more than willing to honour his current deal with West Brom.
When asked if he expects to be an Albion player on 1 February, Long said: “Yes. No offers have gone in, no offers have been accepted and I know as much as anyone else does.
“I’m just concentrating on going to training tomorrow to try to get three points at Southampton.
“There have been no further talks and there are no further offers on the table.
“I’m contracted until the end of this season and then if West Brom want to take up the option after that, then I’ll have another season. I’ll play as long as my contract is here, if West Brom still want me.”
As stated by Long, West Brom will travel to St Mary’s to take on Southampton at the weekend.
