Malaysia claimed their first ever Suzuki Cup triumph courtesy of a 4-2 aggregate win over Indonesia on Wednesday.
Heading into the second leg at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta with a 3-0 lead after a first-leg win at home, the visitors extended their advantage nine minutes after half-time thanks to a goal from striker Mohd Safee Mohd Sali.
Mohd Sali has been in a rich vein of form for his national side having scored a brace in the first leg on top of another two goals in their semi-final win over Vietnam.
Indonesia did not lie down, however, and gave their home supporters some hope when defender Mohammad Nasuah scored after 72 minutes.
Muhammad Ridwan added a second for Indonesia with two minutes remaining to ensure a 2-1 win on the night and salvage some respectability for the hosts, but it was not enough to deny Malaysia their maiden Suzuki Cup title.
