Maloney close to MLS switch

Wigan Atlhetic midfielder Shaun Maloney is on the verge of completing a move to MLS side Chicago Fire, according to the Mail Online.

The Scotland international was close to joining Leicester City last week, only for the deal to fall through, and Latics manager Malky Mackay is still willing to let him move on.

Since arriving at the DW Stadium in the summer of 2011, the 31 year old has made eighty-three appearances in all competitions, scoring fourteen goals, and was part of the squad that won the FA Cup in 2013.

Prior to his move to Wigan, Maloney had two spells at Celtic, either side of an eighteen month stint at Aston Villa while internationally he has been capped thirty-seven times, scoring four goals.

Wigan’s 1-1 draw with Blackburn on Saturday left them five points from safety, and they can now be backed at 3/1 to be relegated to League One.
