France winger Florent Malouda has called on his team to begin a fresh unbeaten streak ahead of their Euro 2012 quarter-final against Spain.
Laurent Blanc’s men suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat to Sweden in their final Group D match, a result which saw them drop to second place in their section following England’s 1-0 victory over Ukraine.
It also ended France’s 23 game unbeaten run, and Malouda has now urged his team to bounce back against the European and world champions in their last-eight showdown.
“I think every player knows that we do not need anyone to come and tell us it (the defeat to Sweden) was a shocking result,” Malouda told reporters.
“I think it was very disappointing, from the players’ point of view.
“The question is, how do we start another run? It is better to end that run against Sweden and start a new one against Spain and then win the tournament.”
