According to multiple sources, Manchester City are closing in on the signing of Matheus Nunes from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
There has been no definite agreement between the two clubs as of yet, but the talks are progressing and a package of around €50 million, with add-ons to follow, is being discussed. As for the 24-year-old Portugal international, who was previously linked with Barcelona and Liverpool, he is believed to be open to the prospect of joining City.
City’s need for a midfield player has increased recently. Following the departure of Ilkay Gundogan to Barcelona they signed Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea, but the injury that could keep Kevin De Bruyne out until the end of the year appears to have sparked plans for another addition, despite Bernardo Silva signing a new contract.
Nunes only joined Wolves last summer from Sporting Lisbon, for a reported fee of €45m. Since then, he’s made a total of 41 appearances for the club in all competitions, with one goal and one assist to his name so far. Whatever happens, he won’t be a part of the Wolves squad to face Everton on 26 August after picking up a pair of yellow cards in the 1-4 defeat at home at the hands of Brighton last week.
