Manchester City are close to wrapping up a deal for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, according to The Telegraph.
It is no secret that the Dutch stopper is one of the first names on Pep Guardiola’s wish list and January move to Etihad Stadium now looks likely.
Namely, latest reports suggest that Man City are on the verge of agreeing a £60 million deal for Van Dijk, which would see them beat Barcelona, Chelsea and Liverpool to the player’s signature.
While they were initially reluctant to cash in on the Netherlands international, Southampton are aware they won’t be able to keep the player at the club for much longer and they seem ready to do business with their Premier League rivals.
Virgil van Dijk is expected to succeed injury prone Vincent Kompany at Etihad Stadium and further reinforce City’s back line.
