Newcastle have been considering a host of candidates in their search for a new manager this summer, and they may well have stumbled upon their ideal man – Manchester City coach Patrick Vieira. The Frenchman has been working hard with the Sky Blues in recent years to prep himself for management, and he’s eyeing the top job at the Etihad in the future. For now, Vieira will need to earn his stripes in the Premier League, which could see him as the new boss at Newcastle.

It would be a gamble, given the Magpies only retained their Premier League status on the final day of the season, and owner Mike Ashley is notoriously difficult to work with due to his involvement into recruitment and player sales, but nevertheless Vieira is said to be considering the opportunity, and may have to accept should the club offer the vacancy to him.

Former Derby County head coach Steve McClaren is another name in the frame, but Vieira is the bookies’ favourite due to his work in the tip flight with the two-time champions, and Coral are giving odds of 1/1 for Newcastle to make the Frenchman their next manager.
