Premier League title contenders Manchester City are keeping close tabs on Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl, Bild can reveal.
The highly rated youngster has performed at a very high level over the last couple of years and he is now regarded one of Europe’s leading holding midfielders.
Real Madrid, Barcelona and AC Milan were the first sides to show interest in Weigl, but the latest reports claim that Manchester City have joined the race as well.
Pep Guardiola is well aware of the midfielder’s qualities from his time in German Bundesliga and he will attempt to bring him to Etihad Stadium in the near future.
Weigl has a deal until June 2019 at Signal-Iduna Park, but Dortmund officials aim to increase his €1.5 million per year salary in an attempt to ward off interest in his services.
It goes without saying that Manchester City are in a position to offer the 21-year-old a serious pay rise, but it remains to be seen whether they can agree a transfer fee with the Millionaires.
