Manchester City are understood to be having talks with Tottenham midfielder David Bentley after the winger fell out of favour at White Hart Lane.
The 25-year-old has played just 5 minutes of league football this season after his arrest for drink driving infuriated manager Harry Redknapp, who was involved in a car crash a number of years ago in which 5 people were killed.
The ex-Blackburn winger was seemingly heading to Aston Villa earlier in the summer until that transfer fell through, although several other Premier League clubs are said to be interested.
Manchester City manager Mark Hughes had ruled out any further spending after landing Everton defender Joleon Lescott for £24 million, but with Tottenham said to be interested in taking Martin Petrov a deal may be done which sees Bentley arrive at Eastlands with Petrov heading the other way.
