Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz has been heavily linked with Real Madrid, with reports in Spain frequently speculating over both him and Die Werkself head coach Xabi Alonso moving to the Spanish capital at the end of the season. Liverpool have also been mentioned as a club interested in the services of the talented attacking midfielder, while Bayern Munich are exerting all of their considerable appeal to convince him to remain in the Bundesliga.
However, a report from Caught Offside claims Manchester City currently lead this race, with their sources apparently suggesting Wirtz prefers the Etihad to other potential destinations if he leaves the BayArena.
Still only 21, Wirtz prefers the classic No. 10 role on the pitch, though he can be deployed on either attacking flank, or as a second striker if need be. In 17 matches across all competitions this term so far, he’s scored seven goals and produced two assists. His contract with Leverkusen runs until 2027.
