According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini will ask the clubs director of football, Txiki Begiristain, to try and sign long-term target Daniele De Rossi in the January transfer window.
City tried to land the Italian last summer, but he opted to stay and Roma and help them have a good campaign in Serie A.
However, reports now suggest that the midfielder has told people close to him that he wants to leave his hometown club and will put in a transfer request, which is sure to put the English Premier League champions on red alert.
Roma will want at least £20 million for one of their most prized assets though and De Rossi himself is likely to demand wages of around £100,000-per-week.
This could be a blow for City as they are looking to keep on top of UEFA’s finical fair play rules and it will be interesting to see if Begiristain allows this move to go ahead.
With the Italian club reportedly needing some cash to solve finical problems though, they could allow their midfielder to go on the cheap and De Rossi does seem to be the kind of player that Mancini needs in his squad.
