Manchester City have set the price for the services of Raheem Sterling at €80 million amid interest from Barcelona, according to Marca.
Sterling’s contract at the Etihad expires at the end of the 2022-23 season, which means it will enter its final 12 months next summer unless a new one is agreed and signed by then.
As things stand at the moment, an extension is unlikely to happen. The 26-year-old is currently out of favour with manager Pep Guardiola, who prefers to name Jack Grealish and Phil Foden in the starting lineup ahead of the former Liverpool winger.
Barcelona are in a difficult financial situation, and even if there without the effects of the ongoing pandemic taken into account, they would still find it difficult to pay that kind of money for a single player. On the other hand, the Catalan club are fully aware that City aren’t likely to accept an offer below their valuation after they were forced to wait a year to sign Eric Garcia for free, rather than complete the transfer for a reduced fee in 2020.
