Pep Guardiola is ready to battle PSG for Monaco’s talented Brazilian midfielder Fabinho, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Reports in France suggest that a £67m bid will be needed to persuade Monaco to part with their defensive midfielder, and French giants PSG are unsurprisingly also expressing an interest. Manchester City have already signed Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy from Monaco in the summer, and Guardiola will be hoping that their previous business, and the fact that, unlike PSG, they are not Monaco’s direct rivals, will help him secure Fabinho’s services.
The Brazilian is a versatile midfielder, often playing a deeper defensive role but also capable of linking up the play between defence and attack. He bagged two assists and a goal against Manchester City in the Champions League last season over the two-legged round of 16 tie between the two teams. Monaco progressed thanks to the away goals rule last season, but Guardiola will be hoping that Fabinho can help City make deep inroads into the competition, if he can secure the Brazilian’s signature.
