Premier League giants Manchester City are in the midst of an injury crisis amongst their defence. Not that you would know it from the league table, with the Citizens leading their eternal rivals United by five points at the time of writing.
However, Pep Guardiola is smartly targeting defenders in the January transfer window in order to lessen the burden on the likes of Vincent Kompany and John Stones.
The latest name on the City manager’s shortlist is that of Chelsea centre half Andreas Christensen, according to the Express, who has started to force his way into Antonio Conte’s thinking this season after two impressive years on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach.
With both Stones and summer signing Benjamin Mendy out for the long term with hamstring and knee injuries respectively, the young Dane could provide the perfect replacement as City look to continue their remarkable form and storm to the Premier League title.
Given the fact that they would potentially be buying a title rival’s defensive starlet, the current league leaders would doubtless have to pay a premium to convince Chelsea to part with Christensen.
