Manchester City are considering a swoop for Paris Saint-Germain’s Marquinhos, according to Sky Sports.
The Premier League champions, who beat Leicester City on Saturday to close down the gap between them to just one point, have been feeling the consequences of not signing a replacement for Vincent Kompany, who left the club in the summer. Manager Pep Guardiola obviously believed his back line was well stocked and refused to dip into the market. However, the long-term injury absence of Aymeric Laporte and occasional niggles suffered by John Stones have been forcing him to put midfielder Fernandinho next to Nicolas Otamendi at the back, and he is now reportedly looking to rectify the problem.
Marquinhos’s current contract with PSG expires in 2022, but the Ligue 1 champions have offered the 25-year-old Brazilian defender fresh terms which he appears reluctant to accept. City are watching the situation closely, though they may face competition from Real Madrid.
