Remember the Wars of the Roses? No, because they were 600 years ago, but luckily for you there’s a new one brewing. Danny Rose, in true Helena of Troy fashion, has sparked a battle between Manchester United and Chelsea to acquire the England left back’s signature.
According to the Express Jose Mourinho wants to test Tottenham’s nerve again in January with another bid. United failed to sign Rose in the summer and, with Luke Shaw struggling with a foot injury, have subsequently plugged their left-back shaped hole with Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind so far this season. Mourinho has historically not placed much trust in Shaw, and with Ben Davies looking so impressive for Spurs it is certainly possible that Danny Rose could be allowed to leave in January.
However United will also reportedly face competition from Tottenham’s London rivals Chelsea. Current left wing back Marcos Alonso has been highly impressive for the reigning Premier League champions, but can look defensively shaky at times. Rose offers defensive stability as well as fairly threatening attacking play, and the England international will need to make sure he has consistent play time with a World Cup coming up in the summer.
