Manchester United are getting closer to completing a deal for Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier, according to The Athletic.
Reports in Spain claimed, as recently as a few days ago, that the La Liga champions were unwilling to part ways with the right-back and that he had no intention of leaving the Spanish capital. However, Trippier is believed to have started looking at houses in Manchester, and Atletico aren’t opposed to a sale due to his three-year contract, signed in 2019, entering its final year.
United have been looking to add competition or cover for Aaron Wan-Bissaka on the right defensive flank, and in Trippier they see a ready-made solution, a player fully formed who can properly challenge their current right-back for the place in the starting XI.
The talks between the two clubs are in an advanced stage. Some sources are saying that a fee of £10 million is being discussed, though that sum seems rather low for the 30-year-old England international.
