Manchester United spent close to €250 million this summer, signing defenders Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia, winger Antony, midfielder Casemiro, as well as Christian Eriksen on a free transfer and goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on loan from Newcastle.
Having started their first season under Erik ten Hag with two defeats, United bounced back with four triumphs on the trot, and there have recently been reports suggesting the club had prepared another £100m to spend on reinforcements in January. However, the club’s director of football John Murtough has ruled out similar spending sprees in the near future.
“Overall we are ahead of schedule in our recruitment plans as envisaged at the start of the summer and we do not anticipate the same level of activity in future windows,” Murtough said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
Meanwhile, United have announced a loss of £115.5m for the 2020/21 season as the wages of their players rose to a whopping £384.2m, surpassing the Premier League record previously held by Manchester City.
