Manchester United have started talks with the representatives of Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong over a potential transfer to Old Trafford this summer, according to German journalist Florian Plettenberg. Apparently, United boss Erik ten Hag is a big admirer of the 22-year-old and he’s looking to add a young, high-quality right-back to his ranks.
Frimpong is a proper modern fullback who contributes at both ends of the pitch, boasting plenty of pace and creativity going forward, and very difficult to get around when defending. This season, he’s made a total of 36 appearances in all competitions for Leverkusen, scoring eight goals and assisting his teammates on nine occasions.
The first round of the negotiations between Manchester United and agent Jeffrey Lemmert are believed to have ended on a positive note, with Frimpong being open to leaving the BayArena at the end of the season. His contract with Leverkusen expires in 2025, which means the Bundesliga club are still in a strong position to negotiate a large fee for his services.
