Man United prepare a January bid for Grimaldo

Premier League giants Manchester United continue to monitor the progress of highly-rated Benfica full-back Alejandro Grimaldo Garcia.

Red Devils had their scouts watching the Portugal champions stomp over Feirense 4-0, with Grimaldo widely impressing as he scored the fourth goal for his team in the dying moments of the game.

As their scouts were dispatched home with their notes filled with nothing but positive comments for the 21-year-old Spanish defender, Manchester United are believed to be already mooting a move for the talented full-back once the transfer window reopens in January.

According to Portuguese media outlet Abola, Jose Mourinho is keen to step up the interest for the Benfica starlet as he looks to beat the likes of Pep Guardiola to Grimaldo’s signature.

Manchester City are reportedly also keen on the player, who notched seven Primeira Liga appearances for Benfica this season, but United remain the favourites to land him during winter.

Grimaldo began his professional career at Barcelona, but was transferred to Benfica two seasons ago as he failed to break into the first team at Camp Nou.
