El Mundo Deportivo has learned that Manchester United and Tottenham are locked in the battle for Espanyol defender Hector Moreno.
The Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal knows the player well having coached him at AZ Alkmaar and he is keen to lure him to Old Trafford as a replacement for Nemanja Vidic.
However, Manchester United could face a stiff competition from Tottenham, who are also showing interest in the 26-year-old footballer.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has coached the Mexican at Espanyol and he could make him the first signing of the summer at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham are in talks with Southampton over Dejan Lovren, but with Liverpool also in the mix, everything suggests they will turn their attention to the Mexico international.
Hector Moreno spent last three years with Espanyol having joined from AZ Alkmaar and chances are he will be signing for a top European club this summer.
