Manchester United are unlikely to try and sign Lionel Messi, according to Sky Sports journalist Bryan Swanson.
Given United’s ongoing pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, the financial implication of the Covid-19 pandemic and the club’s business model, it simply isn’t very probable for all the qualities of the six-time Ballon d’Or winner, who is reportedly keen to work with Pep Guardiola again at Manchester City. Therefore, the journalist believes the recent reports of contact between United and Messi’s father, who is also his representative, to be wide of the mark.
Meanwhile, Swanson claims Neymar has told Paris Saint-Germain to make a move for Messi, which is hardly surprising given the friendly relationship between the Brazilian and the Argentine star. The two of them spoke about it last week.
However, the Ligue 1 champions will be wary of such a move, being mindful of the Financial Fair Play rules. They haven’t made any approach for the 33-year-old yet.
