Manchester United tried to sign Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen as an alternative to Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, according to Bild.
The attempts of the 20-time English champions to bring Sancho back to Manchester were well-documented over the summer, and neither club played down the reports at any moment. In the end, Dortmund stood fast on their demand for €120 million to give up on the services of the 20-year-old winger and they refused to sell at any price after August 10th; their ultimatum was that a sale, if it took place, had to be completed by then to enable them to plan for the new season.
United refused (or were unable) to pay the demanded price and they even tried to re-open the talks past the deadline, but to no avail. The door was shut.
It now seems that they were working on acquiring 21-year-old Diaby towards the end of the international window, but like with Sancho, they failed to submit an acceptable bid.
