Manchester United beat Bournemouth by 5-2 at Old Trafford on Saturday, with Nathan Ake once again the standout performer for the Cherries. As relayed by The Telegraph, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told the defender to ‘keep going’, as they need a left-footed centre-back.
United will be looking to offload Marcos Rojo this summer. They obviously don’t want to lose him for fee when his contract expires in 2021, and they have no place for him in their squad. The 30-year-old Argentinian last appeared in the Premier League back in October last year, a one-minute cameo in a 3-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion. It seems Ake would be taking his place in the squad.
The 25-year-old Dutch international has reportedly been on the radar of Manchester City as well, while Chelsea are believed to have the option to re-sign the player for £40 million, having sold him to Bournemouth in 2017 for £20m. If the Cherries are relegated at the end of the season, that clause would drop significantly.
